The infamous and complicated gray area even applies to link building. Gray link building refers to link building strategies that are made up of a combination of both black and white hat link building techniques. An example of a gray technique is making a “donation” (or paying – potato, potahto) in exchange for links. It’s probably safe to say that sticking to white hat link building methods is still your best bet.
